Dr Evan Wilson

Psychiatrist

Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery
Master of Health Service Management (Distinction)
Fellow of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists

Dr. Wilson earned his medical degree in Dunedin before practising across both Invercargill and Christchurch. As a specialist in child, adolescent, and youth psychiatry, he brings a wealth of clinical experience in diagnosing and supporting neurodivergent individuals and treating conditions such as anxiety, OCD, PTSD, and mood disorders. His clinical philosophy centres on equipping young people to navigate external stressors, overcome barriers, and unlock their full potential.

Having worked extensively within the public health sector, Dr. Wilson saw the detrimental effects that prolonged wait times have on a young person's recovery and the heavy toll it takes on their family’s wellbeing. This experience shaped his core mission at Mind Horizons: to deliver outstanding and prompt psychiatric care. He is dedicated to ensuring that mental health struggles and neurodevelopmental differences have the smallest possible footprint on a young person's future trajectory.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Wilson is a strong advocate for healthcare system enhancement and medical leadership. He has held multiple advisory positions within the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP), including roles on the Members' Advisory Council, the Trainees' Advisory Council, the Bi-National Committee for Trainees, and the Climate and Sustainability Steering Group.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Wilson is a dedicated swimmer. A former New Zealand representative in the 10km open water freestyle, he maintains his connection to the sport with morning training sessions before work. He also loves exploring the outdoors on camping adventures with his wife and their two young sons. Back in the office, his love for collecting kinetic art and sensory toys adds a fun, interactive atmosphere to his clinical space.
